Winter 2015 and pregnant ewe performance on the Southern Tablelands

Southern Tablelands producers who are lambing from mid-August on are looking ok this season. The mid July lambings are tight, and some country will need to be shut up or stocked at a low rate to get paddocks for the twin ewes, with a minimum target of 950kgdm/ha. Feeding will need to start now for the July lambing to cover the risk of pregnancy toxemia and to ensure suitable paddocks are available for twin lambing ewes.

Worms - major issues!

Worms are causing major issues for all classes of sheep on the southern tablelands and slopes. The level of pasture contamination is at levels not seen since the 90's. This is catching producers out. The drenching programs used over the last 5 years are not working this year. Sheep are being reinfected to treatable levels again in 6 weeks after oral drenches. Dont get caught.
