Footrot is on the increase in NSW. Nickala Best, a PhD candidate at La Trobe University is investigating new field diagnostic methods using footrot in sheep as a model. As a part of this project, Nikala is conducting a survey of sheep owners about the current state of diagnostics for footrot. The survey should take no more than 10 minutes of your time and would be valuable to her studies.

Heat stress in ruminants has three possible effects on ewe reproduction: reductions in fertility; increases in embryo mortality and; restrictions to foetal development. Effects on spermatogenesis occur for rams without shade, but are not included in this review. This review focuses on the ewe with regard to management options post-heatwave, taking the view that the heatwave has already occurred, and management is required hence to deal with the short and long-term consequences.

Worms are causing major issues for all classes of sheep on the southern tablelands and slopes. The level of pasture contamination is at levels not seen since the 90's. This is catching producers out. The drenching programs used over the last 5 years are not working this year. Sheep are being reinfected to treatable levels again in 6 weeks after oral drenches. Dont get caught.
